Buying Followers, Likes, And Comments

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been seeing a ton of people posting about a new wave of influencers and social media creators that are buying their followers and also their engagement (likes, comments, etc.) on instagram. You may have also seen tons of instagram influencers and celebrities promoting “giveaways” and creating these loops on instagram to gain followers.

I’m going to address the whole “buying” followers thing first, simply because I think it’s one of the most painful things to watch as a creator who has been on the instagram platform for nearly 8 years. I started instagram as a way to document my lifestyle and it was my outlet to genuinely express myself and my thoughts. Over the years, it has become not only a great outlet to connect with millions of people from all over the world, but it has also become a full-time business and job for thousands of people including myself.

For the last 8 years, I have invested my entire life into producing content, interacting with my followers, marketing myself, shooting new projects, working with brands, building business relationships, and most importantly, turning my brand into a full-time career that has allowed me to do what I do. To see other people who just started their brands trying to cheat their way through the system is not only disheartening, but it’s also dishonest and morally just wrong. I don’t think anyone who buys their followers could be proud of something like that. That’s not hard work and dedication day in and day out – that’s just laziness and ultimately, a short-term plan that will get them nowhere in the long-term.

There’s no feeling of great success and achievement that comes with faking your audience. I wake up everyday with a feeling of such gratitude and pride to have come so far and to have been so patient through the process of so many years. While I believe that brands are becoming much smarter and educated when it comes to marketing using influencers, there are still a lot of brands that are learning how to work with influencers on instagram and many of them are scouting out influencers that have fake followers, likes, and comments. This ultimately will lead to a zero return on investment for those brands, which loses them hundreds or thousands of dollars. It’s downright scamming people if you are buying your engagement and then charging brands money to promote their products.

The other scam I would like to address are the current giveaway loops happening on instagram. When I initially saw them happening, I thought “what a cool idea – a great way to give back to my followers, and also expand my audience”. It turns out that this “cool idea” is actually just another way of essentially scamming people to follow you, and really has nothing to do with giving gifts to them. I made the mistake of joining a few of these a while ago, and I will never participate again. Sure, there may be a winner who receives some awesome prizes, but the truth is, in the long-run this is extremely damaging to your brand. People are smarter now and know that for the most part, these things are tricks to boost engagement, growth, and much less about the benefit of the audience. If you’ve participated in the giveaway loops before, you’ll notice that 50% the people who followed you will unfollow you because they didn’t win – and chances are, they won’t participate in the next one. Things I also noticed after participating in a few giveaways and experiencing this firsthand, is that my followers would get greatly discouraged and many of them would lose interest in me and my content. They also would find it as a great reason to unfollow my page because I was disrupting my professional content with tacky, unattractive “GIVEAWAY” images. For about a month after I stopped doing these giveaway loops, my engagement had cut in half and I had lost the value of my brand in not only my eyes, but in many of my followers eyes too.

One thing that HAS seemed to work in my favor is to just be genuine and stop caring so much about growing your brand, and start putting more into the people that already do follow you. Investing in my content daily, focusing on interacting with my audience daily, replying to comments and direct messages, liking and commenting on my follower’s own instagram pages just to put a smile on their faces…THOSE are the steps you can take to ensure you will grow your brand into something that’s long-term. If your content is superb and you’re a good, hard-working person, you will grow your brand, I can guarantee you that. You can NOT fake the grind. There are no “shortcuts” to real success. Remember that.

10 TIPS TO GAIN INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS

MY TOP 10 TIPS TO GAIN INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS QUICKLY

Screen Shot 2017-10-26 at 6.24.03 PM

This is by far one of the most frequent questions I get asked, so I decided to make a detailed blog post about it. Here are my top 10 tips on how to grow your instagram account. The overall key is to STAND OUT amongst the rest. Instagram is my full time job, and it requires a ton of time invested, hard work, and commitment to create the content each day. I spend hours a day working on my content, so if you are ready to make this commitment, you will have a much higher change of great success! 😉

  1. Find your purpose. Set a goal for yourself of exactly how you want to brand yourself. I struggled with this idea for awhile and it made it a lot harder to grow and to get people to WANT to follow me. Do you want be known for your photography, your recipes, your workouts, your makeup tips, your music, etc.? Once you figure this out, it’ll be easier to strategize an actual plan for your future and it will establish a clear path for you to follow.
  2. Create a list of what type of content you want to put forth, and how you are going to add value to other peoples lives. I highly recommend putting out both photos AND video. These are both amazing ways to engage your audience with your content, but as video is becoming more of an engaging platform, I would invest time into making short video clips to allow your audience to get to see you on a more personal level. Video tends to bring higher engagement simply because it shows the real you and people will spend more time watching you then looking at your static image.
  3. Write thoughtful captions to engage your readers and the people who see your content. I always see the same repetitive captions on everyone’s photos over and over again and it gets old really fast. Put your thoughts into each photo or video you are sharing and be real. Be authentic to yourself and don’t copy others words, and more importantly…
  4. DON’T REPLICATE PEOPLE’S WORK. This is a problem I see occurring a lot and people wonder why it’s so difficult to grow. Stop copying other bloggers and influencers, and think of your own creative twist. It’s so amazing to get inspired by others work but ultimately the goal is to be someone new, refreshing and unique on the platform where there are so many replicas. Think of how you can create similar (not the same!!) content but with your own unique twist so you are standing out and offering people something new and different. The more creative you get with your content, the more likely people will follow you and define you as your own special self 😉
  5. Invest in your content. It is all about the small details. Dress up with accessories and find a spot that no one has photographed before to shoot at. Spend time planning your outfits, your hair, your location, your captions, whatever it may be. Find props that will accentuate the photo and bring out the colors, for example, a cozy red sweater and a red cup to match the fall colors in Central Park. Also, invest in your equipment. If you are shooting on a mobile device, that is an amazing start – but make sure the lighting is nice so you are able to edit and play with the colors in different photo apps or even better, Lightroom / Photoshop.
  6. Follow, like and comment on other people’s work who you admire. I think engaging with people who you aspire to be like is also an amazing way to grow because their followers may see your comment, and check out your page. If your pages are similar, they may choose to follow you. Sometimes different comments that have a personal feel to them really stand out to me and I’ll check the person’s page out when I read it.
  7. Don’t be afraid to collaborate. Send a direct message to someone who you feel would be an amazing person to work with and collaborate with. It’s always worth a shot. Also, using instagram stories to mention other accounts that you love, and do a “share” exchange of accounts is always great exposure and can attract a mutual exchange of followers to both of your accounts. Find people in your niche and reach out!!!
  8. Tag bigger accounts that repost other people’s work. There are hundreds of accounts that tag and repost other’s content to support their growth, so do your research. For example, there is a huge fashion page with over 8 million followers called American Style that reposts some of my work and I grow from her because she is so big, but she also benefits because she loves my content and receives a ton of engagement on her own page by reposting me. If your content is good enough and fits well with these bigger account’s pages, they may repost you and send their followers to your page.
  9. Use the appropriate hashtags and geotags. I am always researching different spots and tags wherever I am, especially when I travel, and I get to discover new accounts this way ALL the time. Don’t overdo it on the hashtags, but be relevant and use them in an efficient way to categorize yourself. For example, if your feed is all about travel, use the hashtag #travel and #adventure on some of your photos that correlate.
  10. BE YOU!! People can sense when you’re not being genuine, and true to yourself. Don’t force something that isn’t you. If you’re a fashionista, dive into fashion content. I forced myself trying to wear luxury clothes and designs 24/7, and I really don’t have a passion for that, so I started focusing on what I LOVED, traveling and creating scenic photos, and the results were so much better for me.

I hope some of this tips will help you as you begin posting your content and building your instagram brand! Let me know in the comments if these are posts you would like to see more of, more tips, advice, tricks etc.!

Road Tripping Through the West Coast…

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 6.25.14 PMScreen Shot 2017-07-11 at 6.25.23 PMScreen Shot 2017-07-11 at 6.25.30 PMScreen Shot 2017-07-12 at 6.58.57 PMSpent the last week road tripping through the West Coast. We traveled to LA, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. All I can say is what an incredible and memorable experience. The heat was insane, it was nearly 120 degrees F throughout the entire trip, but our AC got us through ;).

We had acai bowls on the beach, and then made our way into the desert, where the sunsets were remarkable and the nights were quiet, with the distant howl of coyotes and the ruffle of the wind (or was it the rattlesnakes…could never be quite sure hahaha.) All I know is that it was so peaceful, and made me appreciate this country even more than I ever have before.

I want to know, what are your thoughts on the West Coast? Anything I should re-visit when I’m back again?

Being Appreciative…

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 6.15.16 PM.png

I love you all so much for being so sweet to me, whenever I post anything your comments make my day and make me appreciate what I do even more. For those of you who don’t know what my job is, I am a lifestyle blogger. When you look at my posts, I want you to be inspired to go out there and create your own life. I want everyone to fulfill their dreams and be who they want to be. I grew up thinking I had to do certain things and have a certain job in order to make money but that simply isn’t true. When you follow your heart and your gut, the money will come. It’s never easy at first and I’ve had so many ups and downs throughout the journey of becoming someone who works for herself, but the hard work is all worth it to me. I hope what I do is inspiring you and can help you pursue your dreams. Think of me as a supportive friend, because I consider you all my friends and I want you all to win and succeed. 💕🙌🏽 Have an awesome weekend.

This City Has My Heart Forever

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 5.54.00 PM.png

This city brings me such motivation 🌟 What is it, exactly, that you want? What is your ultimate goal in life? If you’re feeling lost, the best way to find yourself is to recognize your number one goal – and make a plan to reach that goal. Start by deciding what you want, envision it, and create a vision map or board for yourself. Plan out the exact steps it’ll take to achieve it. The most important part is to believe that you WILL get there no matter what. If it means working until 4 AM some nights, if it means giving up some things in your life that are holding you back, if it means skipping parties to go work, that’s what you’re going to do. It doesn’t matter what you have to do, you’ll do it. Life is too short to settle for what you don’t want to do. Dream big, vision big, and achieve big. We all have a purpose, so why not find that purpose and fulfill it before it’s too late? 🌟#Motivation #Happiness #Travel #NewYorkCity #NewYork

Moments Spent With You | Miami, Florida

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 5.31.31 PM

This was taken in Miami, Florida. We spent the day at Como Hotels, and woke up super early to catch the sunrise by ourselves, overlooking the beach and that gorgeous blue water. The hotel was super quiet, and we felt such a sense of privacy and exclusivity while we spent our morning talking and lounging in the rooftop pool.

This pool wasn’t just an ordinary pool – but actually a therapeutic hydro-jet tub. People can rotate through each section of the pool and get massaged by the powerful jets blasting warm water. It was so so relaxing.

A question that I often get asked over and over again is — who takes these photos of you and your boyfriend? 🙂 We actually use a tripod and position it carefully for most of our photos. Occasionally we do ask someone passing by to shoot us, but we like to use the tripod best because it’s steady, and it’s easy to position and get the right angle without having to direct someone.
